This past weekend, a significant national workshop, part of the CEV School Project ‘Play Volleyball – Grow with it’, brought together 47 coaches and 11 physical education teachers from across Cyprus. This event, the fourth national workshop in 2025 for the EU-funded program, followed similar successful initiatives in Albania, Greenland, and Slovenia.

The Cyprus Volleyball Federation, a proud partner of the CEV project since 2019, anticipates that this latest workshop will significantly boost the program`s visibility and impact. The comprehensive workshop began with a theoretical session at the Pefkos Hotel in Limassol, which was then complemented by a practical session held at the adjacent AEL Limassol Sports Hall.

Maria Farsund, a distinguished member of the European Coaches Commission from Norway, expertly led both sessions. She introduced attendees to the CEV School Project`s core concept and its comprehensive educational resources, including the handbook and a diverse collection of instructional videos. Drawing from her extensive experience coaching young players, Farsund shared invaluable insights. The afternoon saw her demonstrate a range of practical exercises and drills, all carefully aligned with the theoretical principles covered earlier in the day.

Each participant received the latest CEV School Project handbook, PVGW2.0, along with access to a rich database of educational videos developed by the CEV and its project partners.

This workshop marked a historic milestone, being the first of its kind ever organized in Cyprus. Recognizing its success, the Cyprus Volleyball Federation plans to host another workshop in May 2026, aiming to offer more coaches and teachers the chance to further their expertise in volleyball. Participation in these workshops is compulsory for all teachers and coaches engaged in Cyprus`s volleyball educational program and coaching license system.

The event concluded with a formal ceremony, where all 58 coaches and teachers received certificates of attendance. Medals were also awarded to the children who had assisted with the practical session demonstrations. Notably, one teacher, representing a Cypriot teachers’ association, has already committed to visiting schools to disseminate the newly acquired knowledge, ensuring broader exposure to volleyball for children across the Mediterranean island.

This workshop marks a pivotal moment for volleyball development in Cyprus, bringing together dedicated professionals to inspire the next generation of players.
