VfB Stuttgart forward Deniz Undav vented his frustration following a tough loss to Borussia Dortmund in Saturday evening’s Bundesliga clash. Emotions ran high after the final whistle. Stuttgart seemed on track for a goalless draw against their Westphalian opponents until Dortmund netted two goals in injury time, securing a 0-2 away win.
Deniz Undav Involved in Post-Match Altercation
The Bundesliga’s standout performer has endured a challenging international break. Undav joined the German national squad in excellent form. Although he scored his fourth DFB goal – a match-winner – in his seventh international appearance, Germany’s head coach Julian Nagelsmann expressed significant dissatisfaction with the 29-year-old’s substitute performance against Ghana.
Many German media outlets echoed Nagelsmann’s view, questioning whether Undav’s remarkable versatility ironically made him an awkward fit for the national team. Undav, who famously scored a hat-trick against Borussia Dortmund earlier this season, faced taunts from BVB attacker Karim Adeyemi, another player struggling to secure a consistent spot in the German squad.
Undav Details Confrontation with Karim Adeyemi
“We were the superior team for the entire match,” Undav fumed in the mixed zone post-game. “We failed to execute the crucial details against a team that defended deep throughout, and we were ruthlessly punished in the end. They [Dortmund] didn’t even truly believe in themselves, but their ability to win regardless is characteristic of BVB’s season.”
“There was a provocative goal celebration,” Undav explained, referring to Karim Adeyemi’s actions after scoring the opening goal in injury time (90+4). “He did it because I had done something similar when I scored a hat-trick in the reverse fixture. That agitated the fans. A few of us went over there. Let’s just call it a misunderstanding.”
