Recap
The Netherlands has clinched a spot in the quarterfinals of the 2025 FIVB Women’s World Championship, overcoming Serbia in a thrilling five-set encounter (27-25, 26-24, 22-25, 20-25, 15-11) during the Round of 16.
This victory held significant meaning for the Dutch, especially after their 2018 World Championship campaign where they secured their best-ever fourth-place finish, only to be defeated by Serbia in the semi-finals. This time, however, the tables turned as the Netherlands triumphed over the reigning champions to progress further in the tournament held in Thailand.
The Netherlands took control early, securing the first two sets with tight scores, demonstrating remarkable composure during crucial points. Nika Daalderop and Dambrink were instrumental in their offensive efforts, establishing an initial lead for the Dutch.

Serbia, despite the absence of their captain, Tijana Bošković, mounted a formidable comeback. They heavily relied on Uzelac, whose stellar performance saw her accumulate an impressive 31 points, keeping her team`s hopes alive. After conceding the initial two sets, Serbia dramatically shifted momentum in the third and fourth, bolstering their blocking and unleashing powerful serves. This resurgence leveled the score, forcing the defending champions into a decisive fifth set.
The final set was a true battle of endurance and mental fortitude. Serbia persisted with their fight, but the Netherlands ultimately showcased superior balance and squad depth to seal their victory. Daalderop concluded the match with 19 points, while Dambrink contributed 17. Their combined offensive power, coupled with strong team defense, enabled them to hold steady and secure the 15-11 win.

“What a fantastic performance from the team! We knew Serbia would push us, but our determination and teamwork shone through. We`re thrilled to be in the quarterfinals and ready for the next challenge.”

Having progressed from topping their pool to reaching the quarterfinals, they are now firmly in contention for what could be their inaugural World Championship medal.
