Eczacibasi Sports Club, a leading pioneer in Turkish women`s volleyball, recently inaugurated its new, state-of-the-art sports arena in Kartal. This modern facility, built to international standards, was officially opened in a ceremony attended by prominent figures including Istanbul Deputy Governor Ünal Kılıçarslan, Turkish Volleyball Federation President Mehmet Akif Üstündağ, Kartal Mayor Gökhan Yüksel, various volleyball officials, and esteemed club legends. The event featured special moments that beautifully symbolized the club`s rich heritage and its promising future.
A New Chapter in a 60-Year Journey
This inauguration marks a significant new chapter in Eczacibasi Sports Club`s nearly 60-year journey, having been instrumental in the development of Turkish women`s volleyball since 1966. The Kartal Sports Hall represents the club`s third major infrastructure investment, following its earlier facilities in Levent (1973) and Ayazağa (2001). During the ceremony, former club captains Aylin Üstündağ, Özlem Özçelik, and Simge Aköz, representing different historical periods, joined young athletes on stage. Together, they showcased the club`s unique volleyball legacy, emphasizing its transmission from generation to generation.
In his speech, Club President Faruk Eczacibasi highlighted that women`s volleyball has evolved beyond a mere sport, becoming a significant cultural movement.
Impressive 4,000-Seat Capacity
Constructed in just 15 months, the impressive new hall spans a total area of 25,000 m², featuring a 7,820 m² dedicated sports area and a seating capacity of 4,000. Built to meet stringent FIVB and CEV international standards, the facility includes a main court, three additional training halls, accommodation for young athletes, and dedicated fitness and physiotherapy zones. Equipped with a high-definition cube screen, modern spectator stands, and an integrated museum, the arena is designed to function as both a premier sports complex and a vibrant cultural center. From the 2025-2026 season, Eczacibasi Sports Club will host all its national league and European matches at the Kartal Sports Hall, which will also serve as a permanent hub for the development of emerging talents.
