Riga, Latvia, is set to host the highly anticipated “Action Volley” Youth Volleyball Coaching Courses on October 15 and 16. These specialized training sessions will take place at the Riga Volleyball School, under the expert guidance of Remko Kenter, the distinguished founder of “Action Volley” and Secretary of the European Coaches Commission (ECoC).

Upon successful completion, participants will be awarded a prestigious CEV certificate, recognizing their newly acquired skills and knowledge in youth volleyball coaching. The courses will be conducted entirely in English and are organized in close collaboration with CEV, proudly operating as part of the CEV School Project ‘Play Volleyball – Grow with it’.

About Action Volley and Its Innovative Philosophy

Action Volley champions the philosophy, “Volleyball through the eyes of children.” Established by Remko Kenter in 2019, this initiative has seen remarkable growth, having facilitated over 100 workshops across the Netherlands and an additional 28 international sessions. To date, approximately 2,500 coaches have participated in these workshops, collectively enhancing the volleyball experience for an estimated 30,000 children.

The two-day curriculum is meticulously structured to offer a comprehensive learning journey:

  • Day 1: Introduces coaches to the core principles and methodologies of “Action Volley.”
  • Day 2: Explores the dynamic and engaging “Smashball” game.

Each day begins with a thorough theoretical review, progresses to practical application on the court, and concludes with an evaluative exam to consolidate learning.

Remko Kenter`s Vision for Modern Youth Coaching

Dutch volleyball specialist Remko Kenter underscores the vital responsibilities of youth coaches:

“Coaches must forge genuine connections and empathize with children`s perspectives, ensuring every child feels secure and valued within the group. It is paramount that explanations are delivered in language and concepts children can easily grasp. While the hands-on court activities are undeniably the most enjoyable, they must always be underpinned by a clear, strategic vision.”

Kenter further articulates his observations on the evolving landscape of youth sports:

“Children have changed considerably in recent years, which is perfectly normal given our constantly evolving world. They are more vocal and inquisitive than ever before. Unfortunately, volleyball has not always adapted effectively to these shifts. In many countries, participation among children, particularly boys, is declining. One contributing factor might be volleyball`s technical demands. Traditional training methods often placed heavy emphasis on technique, which could be challenging and, consequently, perceived as boring by children. Innovative approaches like Action Volley and Smashball are revitalizing children`s enthusiasm for the game by teaching it in a fresh, more captivating manner. Today`s coaches must increasingly prioritize player autonomy and foster strong connections with their athletes.”
