Tournament Favorites and Key Quarter-Finals

Brazil enters the finals with the best record of the competition, having secured an impressive 11 victories out of 12 matches played. Their strong performance, losing only 11 sets so far, highlights their dominance in what has proven to be a tough and well-balanced tournament.

Reigning champions France and Italy have also secured their places among the top contenders. France notched eight wins from their twelve preliminary matches, while Italy displayed exceptional form with ten victories in twelve games. The Italian squad arrives in Ningbo on a red-hot five-match winning streak, with their last loss being a narrow 1:2 defeat to Brazil.

Italy is expected to be heavily favored in their quarter-final encounter against Cuba, a team they have yet to face in this edition of the tournament. Cuba concluded the preliminary round with an even record of six wins and six losses, mirroring the performance of European debutants Ukraine and Bulgaria, though Cuba held a slight points advantage over both.

A European side is guaranteed a spot in the semi-finals, ensuring continued European representation in the title hunt. Should Italy successfully navigate their match against Cuba, they will then face the winner of what promises to be a titanic battle between France and Slovenia.

In their last four meetings over the past two years, Slovenia has held the upper hand against France, winning three of those encounters. However, France emerged victorious in their most recent clash during the preliminary round of the 2025 FIVB Men`s Volleyball Nations League, securing a commanding 3-0 straight-sets win (25-23; 29-27; 25-23).

Poland, the most decorated nation in the tournament`s history with five medals and a remarkable record of podium finishes in each of the last five editions of the FIVB Men`s Volleyball Nations League (including their title win in 2023), secured their quarter-final berth as the final European qualifier. They finished fifth in the preliminary standings with eight wins and four losses, an identical record and point tally to Japan, though with a slightly lower set ratio.

Final Round Schedule

The quarter-finals will commence on July 30 with two exciting matchups: Brazil vs. China and Japan vs. Poland. The remaining two quarter-final games are scheduled for July 31. The semi-finals will take place on August 2, with the medal matches, including the grand final, concluding the highly anticipated tournament on August 3.
