Five formidable European teams are set to compete for the championship title at the 2025 FIVB Women`s Volleyball Nations League. The highly anticipated final round will commence on Wednesday, July 23rd, at the iconic Atlas Arena in Łódź, Poland.
Among the contenders, Italy stands out as the sole undefeated team and the reigning champions. They are on a quest for their third VNL title, which would see them equal the record held by the United States, who claimed gold in 2018, 2019, and 2021. Having lost only seven sets across 12 matches and maintaining a perfect winning record, Italy faces a challenging quarter-final clash against the United States. The Americans have a record of seven wins and five losses in the tournament. In their previous encounter this season, Italy convincingly defeated the U.S. in straight sets (25:13, 25:13, 30:28).
Italy`s success is attributed to its impressive versatility and roster depth, with key players like Paola Egonu (171 points), Sarah Fahr (116 points), and Ekaterina Antropova (109 points) delivering stellar performances. As reigning Olympic champions, this generation of Italian players aims to secure yet another major trophy.

Host nation Poland, bronze medalists in both 2023 and 2024, hopes to achieve further success on home soil and secure another podium finish. They concluded the preliminary round in fourth place with nine wins and three losses, two of which occurred in the final week against strong opponents Brazil and Japan. Poland`s quarter-final opponent will be China, a team they previously defeated 3:1 (25:22, 20:25, 25:19, 25:21) earlier in the tournament.
The 2023 champions, Türkiye, finished sixth in the preliminary round. Coach Daniele Santarelli`s squad is determined to reclaim the top spot, bolstered by the timely return of Melissa Vargas in the latter stages of the preliminary competition. Their quarter-final match will be against Japan, the 2024 runners-up, a team they did not face during the preliminary round.

Germany is the final European team to qualify for the quarter-finals, marking their second appearance at this stage, following an eighth-place finish in 2023. Their qualification was secured by a strong performance in the preliminary round, achieving victories against Canada (3:2), Thailand (3:0), and the Dominican Republic (3:1). Germany concluded the round with seven wins and five losses, earning their spot among the top eight.
However, they face a formidable challenge in their quarter-final match against Brazil, a team that has won 11 of their 12 matches to date. In their previous preliminary round encounter, Brazil narrowly defeated Germany 3:2, after Germany initially held a 2:1 lead before losing the final two sets (20:25, 8:15).
The quarter-final matchups of Italy vs. USA and Poland vs. China are scheduled for July 23rd. The remaining two quarter-finals will follow on July 24th. The semi-finals are set for July 26th, leading up to the medal matches on July 27th.
