The fourth day of the preliminary phase of the 2025 Men`s Volleyball World Championship in the Philippines brought new achievements for European teams. On Monday, thrilling matches were held in Pools B, D, E, and G, where several national teams secured their progression to the next stage.

Pool B: Netherlands and Poland Dominate

Netherlands – Romania 3-0 (25-23, 26-24, 26-24)

The Netherlands secured their second victory in the tournament, confidently defeating Romania 3-0. This win propelled the Dutch to the top of Pool B with six points. Romania, having failed to win a single set, remains at the bottom of the standings.

  • Key Dutch players: Michiel Ahyi scored 19 points, including five aces. Tom Koops added 13 points with a 60% attack efficiency.

Poland, the top-ranked team in the FIVB World Ranking, swept Qatar 3-0, securing their and the Netherlands` spot in the Round of 16. Both teams accumulated six points after two rounds. Qatar and Romania are eliminated from contention, having failed to secure any victories.

  • Poland utilized a rotated lineup. The top scorer was Kamil Semeniuk with 13 points (11 kills, 2 aces). Jakub Kochanowski and Kewin Sasak each contributed 8 points.

Slovenia – Bulgaria 2-3 (19-25, 14-25, 25-18, 25-23, 13-15)

In a thrilling five-set encounter, Bulgaria (FIVB 12th) secured a sensational victory over Slovenia (FIVB 6th), earning their place in the knockout stage. This second win in Pool E guaranteed the Bulgarians a top-two finish. Slovenia must now contend with Germany for the second qualifying spot, while Chile is eliminated from the tournament.

  • Match scores: 25-19, 25-14, 18-25, 23-25, 15-13 in favor of Bulgaria.

Japan – Canada 0-3 (20-25, 23-25, 22-25)

Türkiye – Libya 3-1 (25-18, 23-25, 25-14, 25-16)

Turkey has accumulated six points after two matches and is on the verge of advancing to the Round of 16. If Japan fails to secure maximum points in their upcoming match against Canada, Turkey`s spot in the playoffs will be confirmed. Libya, with zero points, retains only a slim chance of progression if Japan defeats Canada 3-0 or 3-1.

  • Key Turkish players: Bedirhan Bülbül and Efe Mandıracı each scored 16 points. Adis Lagumdžija added 15 points, and Gökçen Yüksel contributed 13.
  • Top Libyan player: Ahmed Ikhbayri was the top scorer with 19 points (16 kills, 3 blocks).
  • Statistics: Turkey led in kills (52 vs. 38) and aces (12 vs. 1). Both teams recorded an equal number of blocks (9 each).
