Last Sunday marked an extraordinary achievement for French Volleyball, as the nation`s teams secured a complete set of medals – gold, silver, and bronze – across three significant international competitions in just a few hours. The U19 men`s national team successfully defended their World Championship title in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. Simultaneously, their U16 counterparts earned a bronze medal at their continental championship in Yerevan, Armenia. Adding to the triumph, Clémence Vieira and Aline Chamereau claimed a silver medal at the CEV EuroBeachVolley 2025 in Düsseldorf, Germany, after a gripping gold medal match that went to a dramatic tiebreaker.
France solidified its position as a dominant force in volleyball, extending its impressive streak of success in age-group tournaments. In Uzbekistan, the U19 men`s team defeated Poland in the final, successfully defending the world title previously won by an earlier French generation. This victory made France only the third nation, alongside Brazil and Serbia, to achieve consecutive titles in this event since its inception in the late 1980s.
Clémence Vieira and Aline Chamereau came incredibly close to clinching another gold for France at the EuroBeachVolley final, ultimately losing a hard-fought tiebreaker to Ukraine`s formidable duo, Maryna Hladun and Tetiana Lazarenko. Regardless of the match`s conclusion, both France and Ukraine would have made history, as neither nation had ever won a women`s EuroBeachVolley title before. Vieira and Chamereau captivated audiences in Düsseldorf with their excellent performance, matching France`s previous best result in the competition: a silver medal secured by Anabelle Prawerman and Cécile Rigaux in Palma de Mallorca, Spain, back in 1999.
France`s “Super Sunday” also featured the U16 men`s team earning a bronze medal at the historic continental championship hosted by the Armenian Volleyball Federation in Yerevan. After successfully navigating their pool, France`s U16 squad faced a tough 2-3 semi-final loss to Spain. However, the young team demonstrated resilience, regrouping to secure a decisive victory against Poland in the bronze medal match, thereby ensuring Les Bleus achieved a complete medal collection from international events on that memorable day!
