Last Sunday marked an extraordinary occasion for French Volleyball, as the nation`s athletes and teams achieved a remarkable sweep of medals across three significant international competitions in just a few hours. The U19 men’s national team secured their second consecutive World Championship title in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, while their younger U16 counterparts earned a bronze medal at their continental event in Yerevan, Armenia. Adding to the celebration, Clémence Vieira and Aline Chamereau claimed a silver medal after a fiercely contested tiebreaker in the CEV EuroBeachVolley 2025 gold medal match in Düsseldorf, Germany.
France solidified its reputation as a dominant force in Volleyball, continuing its impressive streak of success in age-group tournaments. In Uzbekistan, they defeated Poland in the final on Sunday to defend their U19 world title, a feat previously achieved by an earlier generation of French players. This victory makes France only the third nation, following Brazil and Serbia, to win consecutive titles in this event since its inception in the late 1980s.
Vieira and Chamereau came close to securing another gold for France but ultimately lost a thrilling tiebreaker in the EuroBeachVolley final against Ukraine’s standout duo, Maryna Hladun and Tetiana Lazarenko. Regardless of the match`s outcome, both France and Ukraine would have achieved a historic milestone, as neither country had ever before won a women’s EuroBeachVolley title. Vieira and Chamereau captivated audiences with their excellent performance in Düsseldorf, matching France’s best-ever result in the competition – the silver medal won by Anabelle Prawerman and Cécile Rigaux in Palma de Mallorca, Spain, back in 1999.
France’s `Super Sunday` also saw the U16 men’s team claim a bronze medal at the landmark continental championship hosted by the Armenian Volleyball Federation in Yerevan. Although France had triumphed in their pool earlier, they narrowly lost 2-3 to Spain in the semi-finals. Nevertheless, the young athletes rallied for their bronze medal match against Poland, ensuring that Les Bleus completed an unprecedented full collection of medals from international events all on the same day!
