In a truly monumental achievement, France has secured its place in the quarterfinals of the FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship for the first time in over 70 years. This historic feat was accomplished by triumphing over the two-time champions, China, in a compelling Round of 16 encounter.
Captain Helena Cazaute played a pivotal role, leading her team with an impressive 22 points and crediting the team’s relentless spirit and collective determination for their monumental victory. France had previously shown formidable form in the tournament, securing convincing 3-1 wins against Puerto Rico and Greece, and pushing volleyball powerhouse Brazil to five sets in a tightly contested match. Against China, opposite spiker Iman Ndiaye made a significant contribution with 20 points, while Amelie Rotar added 18 points to secure the historic win.

After dropping the opening set, the Brazilian squad responded with overwhelming power, winning three consecutive sets through dominant play, primarily highlighting their robust defense and exceptional blocking capabilities.
Gabi Braga was a standout performer, leading Brazil with an impressive 21 points, closely followed by Julia Bergmann, who contributed a strong 17 points. For the Dominican Republic, Gaila González spearheaded their scoring efforts with 15 points, supported by Jineirys Martínez with 9 points and Brayelin Martínez contributing 8 points.
