Following a surprising defeat to Magda Linette at the 2026 Miami Open, six-time Grand Slam winner Iga Swiatek announced a significant change in her coaching staff. Instead of regrouping with her current team, the Polish star revealed that she and her coach, Wim Fissette, have mutually decided to end their collaboration.

Swiatek Addresses Coaching Change

Swiatek shared the news with her fans via an Instagram post. She conveyed her gratitude to the Belgian coach for his contributions and extended her best wishes for his future endeavors. The former world No. 1 also assured her supporters that the rest of her coaching team would remain intact as she prepares for the upcoming clay-court season.

In her message, Swiatek reflected on the challenging experience in Miami, expressing feelings of disappointment, bitterness, and responsibility for her performance. She emphasized the valuable lessons learned and confirmed her decision to pursue “a different path” after many months of working with Fissette. She described their time together as “intense” and “full of challenges and many important experiences,” thanking him for his support, expertise, and for helping her achieve “one of [her] biggest dreams in sport,” widely understood to be her 2025 Wimbledon title. Swiatek requested privacy as she takes time to “take care of myself, process this experience, and prepare for a new chapter,” underscoring her commitment to a step-by-step approach, reminding everyone that “it’s a marathon, not a sprint.”

Wim Fissette, who previously coached Naomi Osaka during two separate stints, began working with Swiatek in October 2024. The pinnacle of their partnership was undoubtedly Swiatek’s triumphant run to the 2025 Wimbledon title, a remarkable achievement considering her previous struggles on grass courts. However, their collaboration also saw less successful periods, notably Swiatek’s failure to clinch a clay-court title, a surface she had thoroughly dominated prior to 2025.
