Despite Poland recording more blocks (10-9) throughout the match, Italy demonstrated superior execution in crucial moments. A prime example was the second set, where Italy, trailing 22:21, unleashed an unanswered 4-0 run to seize control. In the third set, Poland initially built a significant five-point lead at 14:9, but once again succumbed to Italy`s relentless pressure. Captain Simone Giannelli delivered another masterful performance in setting up his teammates, enabling Italy to close out the set 25:23. This victory propels them into their second consecutive final, as they pursue their fifth world title.

Bulgaria`s Historic Run

Meanwhile, Bulgaria finds themselves in a world title match for the first time in 55 years, having last competed for gold in 1970 when they lost to East Germany on home soil. Their semi-final clash against Czechia further cemented their status as the tournament`s dark horses. Bulgaria has maintained an impressive undefeated record, securing wins in all six of their matches while dropping only five sets.

The encounter with Czechia was a tightly contested affair, with victory often decided by narrow margins. Bulgaria claimed the first set 25:20 but conceded the second 23:25. However, powered by an outstanding performance from top scorer Aleksandar Nikolov, who amassed 31 points, they clinched the third (25:21) and fourth sets (25:22). This win presents Bulgaria with a golden opportunity to secure their maiden world title.

Post-Match Reactions and Final Details

“Incredible! I am lost for words… We are medalists of this World Championship and I can’t believe it! Tomorrow we are just going to try to color the medal in gold. But we have a medal, so we are happy. It definitely felt like a really good game. I owed it to the guys after the bad start against the US. They pulled me out in that game and we managed to win a great quarterfinal. I had to repay them by playing this game like I did, so I am happy that I could,” Nikolov shared with VBTV.

The highly anticipated final will take place in Pasay City on Sunday at 12:30 CEST. Italy aims for their fifth title, while Bulgaria has already guaranteed their sixth medal in the competition, their first since winning bronze in 2006. Prior to the final, the bronze medal match will see Czechia battle Poland at 08:30 CEST.
