Dynamo`s scrum-half, Jayden Baron, recently spoke to Telegram channel 50-22, sharing his initial impressions of living in Russia, his thoughts on the local rugby scene, and his future career plans.

Interview Highlights:

The first round of the PARI Russian Championship has concluded. What are your impressions of playing for Dynamo and the overall standard of rugby in Russia?
“Firstly, it`s a tremendous honor for me to represent this wonderful team. The level of rugby I`ve encountered in this beautiful country is truly exceptional. While it presents its challenges, I`m always prepared to face them head-on.”

Which match in the first round stood out the most to you, and why?
“The game against Enisey-STM was the most memorable because they are considered the top team. Although it was incredibly physically demanding, playing against the best helps me identify my own strengths and areas for improvement, motivating me to strive for greatness.”

In the match against Enisey, you were shifted to the left wing in the 73rd minute. How familiar are you with this role, and have you often played on the wing before?
“I`m fortunate to be adaptable to any role assigned to me on the field. As a team, we share a common goal, and I`m always ready to utilize my talents in whatever way the team and coaches require to secure a victory.”

Compared to the leagues you`ve played in previously, how do you assess the level of training, organization, and overall professionalism of rugby clubs in Russia?
“As a South African citizen, the closest comparison I can draw is to the Currie Cup, which stands as one of the leading rugby competitions in South Africa.”

In your opinion, how does Russian rugby sevens differ from its South African counterpart?
“Compared to South African players, Russian rugby players are significantly larger, which results in a more contact-oriented game. In South Africa, conversely, we tend to exploit open spaces between opponents and rely more on our agility and speed rather than sheer physicality.”

Do you wish to extend your stay in Russia and continue your career here?
“Currently, my primary focus is on successfully completing this year and achieving our team`s objectives. My contract officially concludes this October, and I wouldn`t be opposed to an extension. However, the club management has not yet presented an offer. Once a proposal is on the table, my agent and I will certainly give it our full consideration.”
