Vancouver Canucks Trade Rumors: Myers, Pettersson, Garland, DeBrusk Updates and the Waiting Game
Tyler Myers Patiently Awaits Offers, Elias Pettersson Likely Staying for Now
Tyler Myers and his agent, J.P. Barry, are reportedly exercising patience, awaiting a satisfactory trade offer for the defenseman from another team. An offer from the Detroit Red Wings is believed to still be under consideration by the Vancouver Canucks.
Despite continued inquiries from various teams regarding center Elias Pettersson, a trade is deemed unlikely at this time. Pettersson's inconsistent performance and his current contract are contributing to hesitation among potential suitors. The Canucks, for their part, are reportedly content with the prospect of not trading him in the immediate future. Teams such as the Carolina Hurricanes and Los Angeles Kings have reportedly shown interest in the talented center. It's improbable that the Canucks would agree to retain any salary as part of a trade for Myers.
Conor Garland Attracting Interest from the Eastern Conference
Vancouver Canucks forward Conor Garland is reportedly garnering attention from several Eastern Conference teams. His substantial six-year contract extension is set to commence next year.
Among the interested parties are the New York Islanders, who have been linked to Garland, though sources advise against overstating the certainty of a deal. The Canucks are actively engaging with these expressions of interest, hoping to finalize a trade involving Garland before Friday.
Speculation suggests that acquiring Garland might not necessitate a first-round draft pick from the Islanders. Considering Garland's 6x6 extension includes a No-Movement Clause for its initial three seasons, a package involving a second-round pick (of any year) and a prospect appears to be a more realistic trade scenario. It has also been clarified that Tyler Myers is not part of any ongoing discussions between the Islanders and Canucks concerning Garland.
Jake DeBrusk Uninterested in a Canucks Rebuild
Jake DeBrusk has voiced his disinclination to be part of a rebuild, a strategic direction currently being undertaken by the Vancouver Canucks. While acknowledging that rebuilds can present opportunities for younger players, DeBrusk articulated his stance: "This game humbles everybody and it’s been a little bit more than humbling this year. Obviously, that (rebuild) is not something I would be okay with or accepting. My game doesn’t fit that."
DeBrusk, 29, has four years remaining on his contract, carrying a $5.5 million cap hit, and holds a no-movement clause, granting him significant control over any potential trade. His goal-scoring has seen a notable decline this season, with only 13 goals to date compared to 28 last season, and merely two of those have come at even strength.
The Waiting Game in Vancouver Continues
The trade landscape in Vancouver remains dynamic. Tyler Myers is still considering his options, and the Detroit Red Wings' patience regarding a potential deal may be tested. A trade involving Boeser appears to have low odds of materializing, while Conor Garland is actively being discussed as a trade candidate. Conversely, there has been minimal action or discussion surrounding potential trades for Elias Pettersson or Jake DeBrusk. Furthermore, teams interested in Vancouver's unrestricted free agents might opt to hold off on making offers until Friday.
