A widely recognized figure within the Northern Irish Volleyball community, McIlwaine dedicated himself to various facets of the organization throughout these years. Dr. Ian Walker, a fellow member of the school`s commission, presents Paul McIlwaine with a commemorative gift recognizing his extensive contributions to the sport.

Jonathan McFadden, President of NI Volleyball, reflected on McIlwaine`s immense contribution, stating, “For three decades, Paul transcended the roles of coach, official, and organizer; he was the very engine propelling the sport`s expansion and evolution nationwide. His profound passion for Northern Irish Volleyball extends beyond the game itself, deeply valuing the community it fosters. Throughout these years, he assumed numerous vital roles—coach, referee, mentor, board member (even serving as President), and a cherished friend. Both on the court and behind the scenes, Paul poured his time, energy, and heart into Volleyball with unparalleled dedication.”

McFadden further highlighted how McIlwaine`s fervor has shaped fundamental programs, motivated young athletes, and significantly raised competitive standards. “He was pivotal in orchestrating tournaments, bolstering schools and clubs, and guaranteeing the sport`s inclusivity, accessibility, and vibrancy for everyone, for which we are all profoundly grateful,” McFadden added. “His absence will be deeply felt by the Northern Ireland school’s commission. Under his stewardship, the commission witnessed an astounding increase from just one annual competition to twelve this past season, engaging over 1,000 participants—a truly remarkable and continually growing achievement. His consistent leadership, composed demeanor, and unwavering advocacy have forged an enduring impact that will resonate with countless future generations of players. Thank you, Paul, for 30 exceptional years. Northern Ireland Volleyball thrives and stands more united thanks to dedicated volunteers like you, and we extend our sincerest best wishes for your future endeavors.”

While McIlwaine`s retirement closes a remarkable chapter, his legacy will undoubtedly persist through the thousands of young individuals who discovered their passion for Volleyball under his guidance, encouragement, and leadership. Moreover, Paul won`t entirely disappear from the Volleyball scene, having recently achieved his International Volleyball FIVB Level 2 Coaching Award.
