UFC lightweight prospect Paddy Pimblett has publicly argued why he believes he should be the next opponent for the reigning UFC champion, Ilia Topuria.
Pimblett Addresses Rival Contenders
Pimblett directly addressed ongoing discussions that position Justin Gaethje as the rightful next challenger. He cast doubt on Gaethje`s recent credentials, stating:
“People say that Gaethje should be the next contender. But Justin just defeated a guy ranked 11th or 12th after losing to Max Holloway last year.”
While acknowledging that there might be arguments supporting Gaethje`s claim, Pimblett emphasized his personal and unique history with Topuria:
“And you can probably present some arguments in favor of Gaethje. Although I think that Ilia and I have a common history.”
Pimblett concluded by asserting the unparalleled magnitude of a potential showdown with Topuria, positioning it as one of the most significant matchups the UFC could possibly arrange:
“Excluding the showdown between Islam and Ilia, who are the top-ranked fighters in the UFC regardless of weight classes, my fight with Topuria is the most grandiose of those that can be made in the UFC.”
