Poland has etched its name into the history books, securing their second FIVB Men`s Volleyball Nations League title with a dominant 3-0 victory over Italy in this edition`s final.

This championship marks Poland`s second triumph in the competition`s history, placing them alongside France and Russia as the most decorated nations. The formidable European squad has now accumulated an impressive six medals across seven editions of the Men`s VNL.

Despite finishing fifth in the preliminary round, which suggested a challenging path to the title, Poland commenced the final round in Ningbo, China, with a commanding 3-0 sweep against Japan, winning sets 25-23, 26-24, and 25-12.

This powerful start set up a semi-final showdown against Brazil, a team that had boasted the competition`s best record at that point, with 12 wins and just a single loss.

However, Poland once again proved too strong. In a match highlighted by Kewin Sasak`s 18 points, they handed Brazil a conclusive 3-0 defeat, setting the stage for an all-European final against Italy. Italy had reached the final by dominating both Cuba and Slovenia in earlier knockout matches, securing identical 3-1 victories.

The final match, however, left no doubt about the ultimate victor. Poland delivered yet another clinical performance, appearing unstoppable at crucial moments and unequivocally confirming their championship credentials.

Nikola Grbić’s side took the crucial first set 25-22 and maintained their relentless momentum, allowing Italy a mere 33 points across the subsequent two sets. They sealed their second VNL title with convincing 25-19 and 25-14 victories in the latter sets.

Poland’s Cuban-born star outside hitter, Wilfredo Leon, proved to be an exceptional replacement for the injured Tomasz Fornal in this pivotal match. Leon led all scorers in the gold medal showdown with 16 points, with Kamil Semeniuk adding a significant 14 points.

“This means a tremendous amount!” Wilfredo Leon shared with VBTV after the win. “I knew everyone was eagerly awaiting my return to play at a high level, so I pushed myself to do my absolute best. I assured my teammates, ‘I won`t leave you alone, guys! Fornal might be injured, but I’ll be right there!’ I poured everything I had into it, and now we have the gold medal. I am truly overjoyed and incredibly proud!”

Italy secured their maiden medal in the competition, finishing as worthy runners-up. Meanwhile, Brazil clinched the bronze medal, triumphing over Slovenia with a 3-1 victory in the third-place playoff match.
