Wlazly expressed gratitude to those who supported his career, promising further appreciation in due course. He then elaborated on his post-retirement path, which will keep him close to the sport. “Having been an active participant in national and international sporting events for over two decades, I`ve encountered diverse situations. Several years ago, I developed a keen interest in the complexities of sports competition, realizing the multifaceted nature of the sport. The interplay of emotions, stress, and pressure in competitive sports warrants analysis through various interconnected factors. It`s widely understood that an athlete`s performance quality stems from their skill level. I`ve contemplated scenarios where elements like stress, emotions, pressure, motivation, and commitment influence specific on-court situations,” Wlazly explained. He further questioned: “How is it that despite high-level performance, some players lose matches they seemed to have already `won`? Why do they struggle to apply their skills and training during critical moments requiring swift and accurate decisions? What explains the phenomenon of `training players` who excel in practice but falter under match pressure? And ultimately, why doesn`t a high level of technical skill always guarantee sporting success?”

“These reflections led me to gradually develop the concept of a Psychological Support Centre for athletes. Mr. Gadomski, the President of Trefl Gdansk, the club where I played for the past few years, and I discussed this extensively. This year, we launched an innovative pilot project focused on providing psychological care to Trefl Gdansk players. It integrates my extensive sports experience, my understanding of the sport`s unique demands, and my role as an integral team member with professional psychological intervention,” Wlazly continued. “During this initial pilot year, we navigated various challenges. The collaboration with Dr. Marta Witkowska, who directly addresses the team`s mental well-being, combined with my experience and the efforts of the entire sports preparation staff, enabled us to achieve the team`s objective: qualifying for the play-offs. Next season, I will assume a new role as Coordinator of psychological preparation. Notably, I have completed postgraduate studies in pedagogy and sports psychology and am currently pursuing a master’s degree in psychology at the University of Gdansk.” Wlazly`s responsibilities will include organizing psychologist interactions for players, staff, and the board, enhancing club, team, and staff communication, and assisting in setting short, medium, and long-term goals for individuals, the team, and the club. Furthermore, he will foster the development of soft skills among players and coaching staff, particularly focusing on communication, collaboration, team cohesion, and creative problem-solving.
