USA – Türkiye 1-3 (14-25, 25-22, 14-25, 23-25)
Türkiye made a significant mark at the 2025 FIVB Women’s World Championship in Bangkok, earning their first-ever semifinal spot with a convincing 3-0 victory over the United States. The “Sultans of the Net,” current European champions, have maintained an impeccable record in Thailand, advancing to the quarterfinals without conceding a single set. Their journey included dominant 3-0 wins in pool play against Egypt, Thailand, and Canada, followed by an impressive 3-0 triumph over Slovenia (30-28, 25-13, 29-27) in the Round of 16.
Despite their world No. 5 ranking, Türkiye entered the match against the USA as the underdogs. The American team, Olympic gold medalists and Paris 2024 champions, arrived undefeated and buoyed by a strong Round of 16 win against Canada. However, Türkiye drew inspiration from their 2025 Volleyball Nations League semifinal victory against the USA, channeling that momentum into their performance.

Türkiye’s star players delivered stellar performances. Outside hitter Ebrar Karakurt had her best World Championship outing yet against the Americans, leading her team with 23 points (20 kills, three blocks). Opposite Melissa Vargas was equally impactful with 21 points (18 kills, 3 aces), while captain and middle blocker Eda Erdem Dündar contributed 13 points (6 spikes, 7 blocks), including the crucial point that sealed the match.
Following this momentous win, Türkiye now prepares to face Japan—the victor of the Netherlands vs. Japan quarterfinal—for a coveted spot in the championship final.
Brasil – France 3-0 (27-25, 33-31, 25-19)
The stage is now perfectly set for an exhilarating semifinal battle at the FIVB Women’s World Championship 2025, as Brazil prepares to challenge Italy in Bangkok. This highly anticipated match unites two of the world`s elite teams, both boasting impressive winning streaks and rich legacies in volleyball.
Brazil secured their place in the semifinals with a decisive 3-0 victory over France in the quarterfinals. Brazil displayed a determined and highly efficient performance to overcome France in straight sets (27-25, 33-31, 25-19), punching their ticket to face Italy. The second set proved particularly grueling, lasting nearly 38 minutes, before Brazil managed to seize control and dominate the third. Veteran stars shone brightest under pressure: outside hitter Julia Bergmann led Brazil with 17 points, captain Gabi Guimarães added 13, and Rosamaria Montibeller contributed 12, showcasing Brazil’s depth and poise. For France, Héléna Cazaute bravely led with 20 points, supported by Iman Ndiaye’s 15, but their valiant efforts ultimately fell short against Brazil`s consistent play and extensive experience.

Meanwhile, their upcoming opponent, Italy, advanced to the semifinals with dominant sweeps over Germany and Poland, not dropping a single set. Under coach Julio Velasco, the “Azzurre” have demonstrated sharp, consistent form, with key players like Paola Egonu, Anna Danesi, and Monica De Gennaro playing crucial roles. Italy’s roster combines seasoned leaders with promising young talent, offering a blend of power and tactical sophistication.
This semifinal carries additional weight due to the recent intense rivalry between these two nations. Italy emerged victorious over Brazil in a thrilling four-set final at the 2025 Volleyball Nations League, claiming gold and proving their capability to match the South American powerhouse. However, in the history of the World Championship, Brazil has held the upper hand, winning all five previous semifinal encounters between the two teams.
As both squads gear up for another confrontation, the match promises to be a battle of tactics and emotions. Brazil will aim to capitalize on their experience and unwavering consistency, while Italy will seek to replicate their VNL success and reach the final for the first time since 2018. This semifinal guarantees not only high-caliber volleyball but also a compelling clash of styles: Brazil’s calm resilience against Italy’s aggressive, high-octane approach. Fans in Bangkok can expect an electrifying showdown.
