Prominent rugby player Jérôme Bosviel found himself at the center of a scandal affecting his club and teammates.
Following their triumph in Pro D2, the “Montauban” club planned to celebrate their victory with a trip to Ibiza. However, their joyful anticipation turned to shock when it was discovered that a significant sum was missing from the team account designated for the holiday expenses.
“I became heavily involved in gambling, poker, and sports betting,” confessed Bosviel, who was recently named Pro D2`s player of the season. “I meticulously hid my addiction from everyone. I was incredibly ashamed and didn`t want to set a bad example for children. I kept a record of every amount I took in a notebook, genuinely intending to return everything. I swear, I wanted to repay every last cent. I knew it was wrong, but the urge to gamble was stronger than me, and my thoughts constantly revolved around how to return what I had taken. After our victory, during a meeting with the entire team, I finally dared to confess everything. It was a real shock for everyone, but I felt an urgent need to tell them the truth. Some teammates are still upset with me, and I understand that I let them down terribly. I even repaid more than I borrowed. Now I only have one desire: to simply play rugby,” openly stated the 35-year-old fly-half.
