Augsburg Reject Hull City's Bids for Promising Talent Mert Kömür
FC Augsburg has reportedly rejected two offers from Hull City for their young attacking player, Mert Kömür. According to Sky Germany reporter Kerry Hau, the newly promoted Premier League club's initial bid was €8 million, which they later increased to €9 million. However, neither proposal met Augsburg's valuation, with the Bundesliga side seeking a guaranteed fee between €13 million and €14 million. Augsburg also desires achievable bonuses and a significant sell-on percentage as part of any potential agreement. Despite the rejected bids, discussions between the clubs are said to be ongoing.
Get German Football News had previously reported Hull City's interest in Kömür, with subsequent updates indicating that the 21-year-old was open to a move to England. However, no agreement has been finalized between the player and Hull, as Kömür is still in negotiations regarding the terms of a potential contract.
Augsburg holds a strong negotiating position. Kömür signed an extension until 2029 last summer, and his contract does not include a release clause. This means the club is not under pressure to accept an offer that falls below their assessment of the player's value.
This situation mirrors Augsburg's approach during the January transfer window when they rejected interest from Beşiktaş. The Turkish club's initial €10 million bid, later increased to €12 million, was also turned down, and Kömür remained with the Bavarian club.
Augsburg has also been firm in their stance regarding other Premier League interest, having previously rebuffed attempts by Crystal Palace to sign Chrislain Matsima.
Last season, the Dachau native featured in 28 Bundesliga matches, starting 18 of them. He contributed two goals and five assists. Kömür's versatility allows him to play in various attacking roles, including as an attacking midfielder (No. 10), on the right wing, behind a striker, or as a false nine.
Hull City now faces a decision on whether to increase their offer to meet Augsburg's demands while continuing negotiations with the player.
