Borussia Dortmund Boss on Potential Newcastle Target Felix Nmecha: “There can always be astronomical offers.”

Borussia Dortmund's sporting director, Nils-Ole Book, speaking to Ruhr Nachrichten, has not entirely dismissed the possibility of Felix Nmecha departing this summer, despite continued interest from Newcastle United. While Book conceded that exceptionally large offers can never be entirely discounted, he believes a transfer in the current window is highly improbable.

Newcastle United recently identified Nmecha as a prospective replacement for Bruno Guimarães. Reports suggest the Premier League club views the German international as their preferred midfield option should Guimarães complete a potential move to Arsenal.

Given the reported agreement between Arsenal and Newcastle concerning the transfer of the Newcastle captain to the Emirates, it's reasonable to anticipate increased speculation linking the Bundesliga player with the Magpies. However, no official offer from Newcastle or direct negotiations with Dortmund have been reported thus far.

Dortmund Consider Felix Nmecha a Key Player

Nmecha extended his contract with Dortmund until 2030 in March. This agreement reportedly includes an €80 million release clause that becomes active in 2027, decreasing to €70 million a year later. Neither of these clauses can be triggered during the current transfer window.

Consequently, Newcastle would need to negotiate directly with Dortmund, who are reportedly valuing Nmecha at approximately €100 million for an immediate sale. Despite this, Book anticipates that the midfielder will remain with the club.

“I would consider that [a transfer] highly unlikely,” Book told RN. “Of course, there can theoretically always be astronomical sums, but in Felix’s case, I can pretty safely rule it out this summer.”
