Borussia Mönchengladbach Targets 2.Bundesliga Defenders Herold & Gechter
Borussia Mönchengladbach is reportedly eyeing two promising defenders from Germany's second division to bolster their squad. Following the substantial sale of Rocco Reitz, which brought in €21 million, Gladbach now has the financial flexibility to strengthen its defensive line this summer.
Strengthening the Left-Back Position
One key area of focus is the left-back position, where Karlsruher SC's David Herold, 23, has emerged as a primary target. Herold's contract includes a release clause estimated between €3.5-4 million. With his current deal expiring in 2027, this summer presents the final opportunity for KSC to secure a transfer fee for the talented defender. Herold has been a consistent performer for the 2.Bundesliga side, making 26 appearances and contributing five assists this season, helping his club to an eighth-place standing. Gladbach's current options at left-back, Lukas Ullrich and occasionally midfielder Jens Castrop, highlight the need for a specialist.
Reinforcing Central Defence
The club is also looking to enhance its central defence, a department currently lacking in both quality and depth, often requiring midfielder Philipp Sander to fill in. Hertha Berlin's Linus Gechter, 22, is a strong candidate for this role. Gechter has reportedly decided to leave the Hauptstadt club, attracting interest from five to six other Bundesliga teams, with initial discussions already underway.
Borussia Mönchengladbach faces significant competition from rival Bundesliga clubs for both David Herold and Linus Gechter, underscoring the challenge in securing these promising talents.
