Cordenons Beach Volleyball Championship: Mattavelli/Puccinelli and Marchetto/Burgmann Crowned Champions
Cordenons, Pordenone – The seventh stage of the 2026 Italian Absolute Beach Volleyball Championship concluded on Sunday, August 9th, in Cordenons. This FIPAV national circuit event in Friuli-Venezia Giulia featured intense competition among the nation's top beach volleyball pairs as the season nears its decisive phase.
In the women's tournament, Aurora Mattavelli and Claudia Puccinelli emerged victorious, showcasing a high-level performance culminating in their triumph in the final match. On the men's side, Tobia Marchetto and Michael Burgmann claimed the first-place title.
Following the Cordenons event, the Italian Absolute Championship is set for its final two stages. The FIPAV national circuit will proceed to Vasto (CH) from August 21st to 23rd, before the grand finale in Caorle (VE), scheduled for September 4th to 6th, where the Italian Absolute Championship Finals will take place.
Women's Tournament Recap
Aurora Mattavelli and Claudia Puccinelli secured the women's championship, returning to the top of the podium after their previous win in Marina di Modica. The duo, having a strong season, completed their Cordenons campaign impressively by defeating Chiara They and Sara Breidenbach in the final with a 2-0 score (21-18, 23-21). This marks the second consecutive podium finish for the pair coached by James Martins, following their success last week in Montesilvano.
Jessica Belliero Piccinin and Cindy Lee Fezzi earned the third-place position, overcoming Camilla Sanguigni and Sofia Balducci in the bronze medal match with a 2-0 victory (24-22, 21-17).
Men's Tournament Recap
In the men's competition, Tobia Marchetto and Michael Burgmann clinched the championship, marking their return to first place since their victory at the season's first Gold stage in Termoli. Their Cordenons performance saw them overcome Gabriel Marini Da Costa and Raoul Acerbi in a hard-fought final, which went to a tie-break. The match concluded with a 2-1 score in favor of Marchetto and Burgmann (14-21, 21-18, 15-11).
Marco Ulisse and Marco Caminati secured third place, defeating Matteo Camozzi and Nicolò Siccardi in the bronze medal match with a 2-0 win (21-16, 21-11).
