In a remarkable career achievement, Daryia Derkach has clinched her first European gold medal in the triple jump at the European Athletics Championships. This significant victory comes at a mature stage of her career and follows a particularly challenging season.

From Adversity to the Podium: Derkach's 2026 Season

Following Erika Saraceni's disappointing exit from the top eight, the focus and pressure shifted to Daryia Derkach, who, at 33 years old, delivered a standout performance. After a season that seemed plagued by setbacks, including multiple surgeries to address persistent Achilles tendon issues, the Italian athlete quickly regained her form to compete in Birmingham in peak condition. Her efforts were rewarded with the most coveted medal, thanks to a spectacular jump of 14.60 meters, a personal best and the leading European performance of the season.

This triumph marks a significant step up from her eighth-place finishes at the 2023 World Championships, the 2024 Paris Olympics, and the European Championships in Rome. She secured the top spot on the podium, ahead of Belgium's Guisse, who leaped 14.46 meters, and Bulgaria's Nacheva, who achieved 14.40 meters.
