Hoffenheim ends pursuit of Werder Bremen midfielder Jens Stage
According to Sport Bild, Hoffenheim has ceased its efforts to sign Werder Bremen midfielder Jens Stage. This development follows Wouter Burger's decision to extend his contract, which has eliminated the club's immediate requirement for an additional central midfield player. Hoffenheim has informed Bremen that they are no longer pursuing a deal for the 29-year-old Danish international.
Previously, Stage had agreed to a four-year contract with Hoffenheim. However, the two Bundesliga clubs were unable to reach an agreement on a transfer fee. Werder was reportedly seeking around €15 million for one of their key players, a valuation Hoffenheim was unwilling to meet. Negotiations had stalled even before Burger committed his future to the club.
As a result, Stage's likelihood of staying at the Weserstadion has significantly increased. Nevertheless, a transfer before the close of the summer transfer window cannot be entirely ruled out.
Sport Bild reports that Stage remains open to a move to the Premier League if a suitable opportunity arises. However, Bremen will only entertain selling Stage if they receive an exceptionally high offer.
The Danish midfielder proved vital during Werder's challenging 2025/26 Bundesliga season, contributing ten goals and two assists in 29 league appearances. His performance and leadership give Bremen considerable negotiating power, despite their overall need to generate revenue through player sales.
