VfB Stuttgart has concluded their penultimate pre-season friendly of the summer with a victory. The Swabians have maintained their undefeated streak across all test matches leading up to the new season.

During their season opener, the Bundesliga club coached by Sebastian Hoeneß defeated Premier League team FC Everton 3-1 (1-0) just two weeks before their competitive match debut. In front of 43,000 spectators, VfB's goals were scored by right-back Nikolas Nartey (16th minute), defender Ramon Hendriks (65th), and attacker Badredine Bouanani (90+1). Everton's lone goal came from a penalty converted by Thierno Barry, awarded after a foul by VfB goalkeeper Fabian Bredlow (72nd).

Concerns Re-emerge for Zagadou?

Nartey opened the scoring after about fifteen minutes, capitalizing on a well-executed attack shortly after the team's return from their training camp in Grassau, Upper Bavaria. Following a long pass from Jovan Milosevic, Nartey utilized the space on the right flank, made a quick move, and fired the ball under the crossbar. In the second half, which was dominated by VfB, substitute defender Hendriks doubled the lead with a header from a corner kick. Bouanani sealed the victory with a late strike.

Dan-Axel Zagadou had long since left the field. The defender, whose career has been hampered by injuries, briefly returned after receiving treatment in the first half but was ultimately substituted. He was seen holding his knee and hamstring prior to his departure.

VfB Stuttgart's Upcoming Schedule

As a final preparation for the competitive season, the Swabians will travel to England next week for their last friendly. On the upcoming Saturday, the DFB-Pokal finalists will face FC Fulham. VfB aims to advance to the second round of the DFB-Pokal against FC Hansa Rostock on August 21st. The challenging Bundesliga opener against record champions FC Bayern Munich is scheduled for a week later.
