Former UFC fighter and current commentator, Chael Sonnen, has voiced his strong belief that Islam Makhachev, the former lightweight champion of the promotion, will not be able to compete in that weight class again.
Sonnen elaborated on his YouTube channel, stating, “Islam`s return to lightweight seems improbable to me. In fact, I`ll only believe it if Islam manages to succeed at welterweight. From what I`ve observed, the most significant hurdle Makhachev has encountered throughout his career, his least enjoyable experience, has consistently been the challenge of making the 70 kg (155 lbs) weight limit.”
