Montpellier Volleyball Club, a newcomer to the CEV Men`s Champions League, is participating in the 4th round of the competition for the first time in its history, alongside JASTRZEBSKI Wegiel, VfB FRIEDRICHSHAFEN, and Vojvodina NS Seme NOVI SAD. Despite four defeats, Montpellier fans can be confident in their team`s future, thanks to talented players like Théo Faure, who has proven himself a key player this season.

The Beginning

Théo began playing volleyball with friends at the age of 11. Before that, he had tried other sports.

My parents are also volleyball players, and during holidays, I used to play beach volleyball.

Going Professional

An interesting detail from Théo`s volleyball career is that before signing his first professional contract, he played as an outside hitter. For the 23-year-old Frenchman, the decision to turn professional came naturally, based on the feelings and emotions he experienced in youth tournaments, playing for his team, and winning important matches.

At that time, you don`t yet understand what it means to play volleyball professionally, to build a career.

Joining the Toulouse training center was also a turning point for Théo`s choice.

The Champions League Experience

Faure joined Montpellier in 2021. Since the team is competing this season in the strongest European club tournament – the CEV Men`s Champions League – Théo sees this as an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience.

We are playing against some of the best teams and best players. It`s a very high-level competition, and certainly, it`s a great motivation to learn and gain experience for my development as a player. It`s really great, although we`ve lost all four matches so far. However, we still have two more home games – against Friedrichshafen and Novi Sad – and our goal is to win these two matches and continue our participation in the CEV Cup. We don`t want our European journey to end so soon.

Standing at 196 cm tall, Faure is the team`s top scorer in this competition. And while he`s pleased with his performance, he also feels a slight frustration.

Performance in the French A League

As reigning French champions, Montpellier started the season confidently, winning the Supercup, but then encountered some difficulties.

We won the title last year, and we began this season with a Supercup victory. After that, we faced tough times due to injuries, which often happens with teams competing in both national and European competitions. Our current goal is to be among the top teams and secure the best possible position for the playoffs.

Inspiration and Dream

Proud of the French national team`s achievements in recent years, Faure says this team is his primary source of inspiration.

What they are doing is simply amazing!

To once again be part of this team (after participating in the 2021 Nations League), and to win titles, is Théo`s ultimate dream.
