Montpellier HSC VB, making their debut in the CEV Champions League, have faced strong competition. Despite recording four losses, the team`s prospects look promising, largely thanks to the exceptional performance of Théo Faure, who has emerged as a pivotal player this season.

Théo has played in all four Champions League matches (16 sets), tallying an impressive 75 points (averaging 4.69 points per set), placing him 16th in the current Best Scorers rankings and making him Montpellier`s leading scorer in the competition. He has also excelled in the French A League, earning an MVP award in the Supercup (which Montpellier won against CVB 52) and leading his team`s scoring with 226 points from 13 games.

It`s time to get acquainted with Théo, as he is widely regarded as volleyball`s next big star.

The Beginning

Théo`s journey in volleyball began at the age of 11 with friends, after exploring various other sports. His parents, both volleyball players, also instilled a love for beach volleyball during family holidays.

“My parents are Volleyball players, too, and during the holidays, I used to play Beach Volleyball as well.”Théo Faure

Turning Professional

Interestingly, before signing his first professional contract, Théo primarily played as an outside hitter. For the 23-year-old French talent, the decision to pursue a professional career felt entirely natural, ignited by the thrill and emotions experienced during youth tournaments and significant victories. He realized early on his ambition for a professional volleyball career. His enrollment at the training center in Toulouse marked a pivotal moment in this journey.

“At that time, you don’t know yet what it means to play Volleyball professionally, to have a career.”Théo Faure

Champions League Experience

Faure joined Montpellier in 2021. This season, competing in the CEV Champions League, Europe`s premier club competition, presents him with a significant opportunity to gain invaluable experience. He views it as a strong catalyst for his player development, despite the team`s four consecutive losses. Théo aims to secure wins in their two remaining home matches against Friedrichshafen and Novi Sad to potentially extend their European campaign into the CEV Cup. Standing at 196 cm, Faure is currently Montpellier`s top scorer in the competition, experiencing a mix of personal satisfaction from his performance and collective frustration over the team`s results.

“We are playing against some of the best teams and the best players. It is a very high-level competition, and, for sure, it is a great motivation to learn and gain experience for your development as a player. It is really nice, although we lost our four games so far. However, we still have two more at home – against Friedrichshafen and Novi Sad, and our goal is to win these two matches, and to continue ahead in the CEV Cup. We don’t want our European journey to end just yet.”Théo Faure

The French A League

As the reigning French champions, Montpellier started their domestic season strong by winning the Supercup. However, they subsequently faced challenges, including injuries, a common hurdle for teams balancing local and European commitments. Their current objective is to secure a strong position among the top teams and ensure the best possible seeding for the playoffs.

“We got the title last year, we started the season with a win in the Supercup. After that, we had some difficult times with injuries, as it often happens with teams that play in local and European competitions. The goal now is to be among the best teams, and to start the Playoffs in the best position.”Théo Faure

Inspiration and Dreams

Faure draws profound inspiration from the recent achievements of the French national team. His ultimate dream is to once again be a part of this elite squad (having previously played in VNL 2021) and to contribute to winning titles.

“What they are doing, is really amazing!”Théo Faure

Being part of this team again and winning titles with them represents Théo`s greatest ambition in his volleyball career.
