The 2025 FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Championship quarterfinals commenced with intense European matchups, as Italy and Poland successfully advanced to the semifinals. Italy secured their spot first, dominating Belgium, while Poland followed suit with a strong performance against Türkiye in Pasay City.
Italy`s Dominant Performance Against Belgium
Italy quickly established its dominance, taking the first set decisively with a 25-13 score. Belgium mounted a more resilient challenge in the second set, but Italy held firm, with Roberto Russo`s crucial block ultimately clinching it 25-18.
In the third set, Belgium managed to keep the scores even at 10-10 before Italy surged forward. Roberto Russo again played a pivotal role, securing the set 25-18 with a potent ace, completing a clean 3-0 sweep (25-13, 25-18, 25-18).
Russo was a key player, contributing 12 points, which included four blocks, two aces, and an impressive 75% attack efficiency. Alessandro Michieletto also had a significant impact with 11 points, notably four aces, and Mattia Bottolo added 10 points through his attacks.
Despite a strong showing from Belgium`s 22-year-old opposite, Ferre Reggers, who led his team with 13 attack points, and captain Sam Deroo`s 11 points, their combined efforts proved insufficient to overcome the reigning champions.

Poland Overpowers Türkiye to Advance
In the subsequent quarterfinal, Poland established an early lead in the first set, comfortably winning 25-15. The second set was a tighter contest, with Türkiye showing greater resistance and staying competitive. However, Poland managed to pull ahead in the decisive moments to secure a 25-22 victory.
Türkiye matched Poland`s intensity through the mid-point of the third set, but once Poland gained momentum, they were unstoppable. They closed out the set 25-19, completing a clean 3-0 sweep of the match (25-15, 25-22, 25-19).
Poland`s offensive efforts were spearheaded by Wilfredo Leon and Jakub Kochanowski, both contributing 13 points. For Türkiye, Adis Lagumdzija was their leading scorer with 12 points, though his performance ultimately wasn`t enough to shift the match outcome.
Statistical analysis highlighted Türkiye`s defensive prowess, as they recorded more digs (34 compared to Poland`s 29) and more receptions (55 to 43). Nevertheless, Poland demonstrated superior efficiency in capitalizing on their opportunities to score.
