Five European national teams remain in contention for the 2025 FIVB Women`s Volleyball Nations League title. The highly anticipated final round of the competition is set to commence on Wednesday, July 23, at the renowned Atlas Arena in Łódź, Poland.

Italy`s Dominance and Quarter-Final Challenge

Currently, Italy stands as the sole undefeated team and reigning champions. They are aiming for their third historical title, which would make them joint-most decorated in the competition, a distinction currently held by the United States, who won gold in 2018, 2019, and 2021.

All eight teams have advanced to the quarter-finals. Italy, having lost only seven sets across 12 matches and maintaining a perfect winning record, will face a formidable challenge against the United States, who have recorded seven wins and five losses.

The two nations previously met in this tournament`s opening match, where Italy convincingly defeated their opponents in straight sets: 25:13, 25:13, and 30:28. The Italian squad has showcased remarkable versatility and depth, with standout performances from Paola Egonu (171 points), Sarah Fahr (116 points), and Ekaterina Antropova (109 points). The reigning Olympic champions are determined to secure more silverware for their exceptional generation.

Poland Aims for Home Glory

Bronze medalists in both 2023 and 2024, host nation Poland will seek to make further history on home soil and secure another podium finish. They concluded the preliminary round in fourth place with nine wins and three losses, two of which were against Brazil and Japan in the final week.

Poland is set to face the People`s Republic of China in the quarter-finals. The European team previously defeated China 3:1 (25:22; 20:25; 25:19; 25:21) on their home turf during Week 1 of the preliminary round.

Türkiye and Germany`s Path Forward

The 2023 champions, Turkey, concluded the preliminary round in sixth place. Coach Daniele Santarelli`s team will be aiming for a return to the top, particularly with the reintegration of Melissa Vargas in the latter stages of the preliminary round. Their quarter-final opponents will be Japan, the 2024 runners-up, a team they did not encounter during the preliminary phase.

Germany is the final European team to qualify for the quarter-finals, marking their second appearance at this stage, having finished eighth in 2023. A strong conclusion to the preliminary round, featuring victories over Canada (3:2), Thailand (3:0), and the Dominican Republic (3:1), secured their spot among the top eight teams this season, ending with a record of seven wins and five losses.

However, Germany faces a formidable challenge against Brazil, a team that has won 11 of their 12 matches so far. Brazil secured a hard-fought 3:2 victory in their preliminary round encounter, where Germany initially held a 2:1 lead before ceding the final two sets 20:25 and 8:15.

Tournament Schedule

The quarter-final matches between Italy and the USA, and Poland and China, are scheduled for July 23. The remaining two quarter-finals will be played on July 24. The semi-finals will take place on July 26, with the medal matches concluding the event on July 27.
