Preview Wales Flanker Alex Mann Extends Contract with Cardiff Rugby

Cardiff Rugby is delighted to announce that Wales international flanker Alex Mann has signed a new contract, extending his commitment to the club. The decision follows an exceptional season for Mann, including standout performances for Wales in the Six Nations.

Cardiff boss Corniel van Zyl expressed his satisfaction with the signing, stating, “We are incredibly pleased that Alex has chosen to continue his journey here at Cardiff. His impressive season, particularly his significant contributions with Wales in the Six Nations, has been remarkable. He’s been brilliant for Cardiff throughout my time at the club, and it’s clear he deeply cares about the club, his teammates, and our supporters.”

Van Zyl further praised Mann’s on-field attributes: “On the pitch, Alex embodies an ‘all-in’ mentality. He consistently puts his body on the line, demonstrates great versatility, and possesses a well-rounded game that allows him to make an impact in both attack and defence.”

The 24-year-old flanker has become an integral part of Steve Tandy’s Wales setup this season, featuring in all nine of his starting XVs – a feat only matched by hooker Dewi Lake. Mann, a former Wales Under-20 captain, delivered a memorable performance in Wales’ 27-17 defeat to Ireland in Dublin, setting a new Six Nations record with an astonishing 33 tackles.

His remarkable display against Ireland earned high praise from Wales assistant coach Dan Lydiate. Lydiate commented, “He is some talent; a young man with a hell of an engine who reads the game exceptionally well on both sides of the ball.”
