English rugby icon Will Carling is advocating for a significant overhaul of the traditional British & Irish Lions tour system.

Carling believes the established tours to Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa should be replaced by `Best of the Best` encounters held every four years. The former British & Irish Lions player also suggested these marquee matches take place on neutral territory, specifically mentioning the United States.

He stated, “What about a North vs. South Hemisphere match every four years? That would refresh rugby,” emphasizing his vision for revitalizing the sport.

However, implementing such a reform isn`t feasible before 2029, as the upcoming Lions tour to New Zealand has already been officially confirmed. Yet, with tours to South Africa in 2033 and Australia in 2037 still unapproved, discussions are increasingly turning towards a potential Lions tour to France in the 2030s.
