Although numerous beach volleyball clubs exist in the Netherlands, a significant portion still focuses on indoor volleyball. Nevertheless, the sport is witnessing a growing trend of dedicated beach volleyball clubs, indicating a positive trajectory. In response to this evolution, the Nevobo (Dutch Volleyball Association) initiated a pilot project this year: participation in the CEV Beach Volley European Cup, complete with a national qualifying tournament held on August 30 at Irene Beach in Bilthoven.

Regrettably, the women`s tournament was called off due to insufficient team entries. However, the men`s competition proceeded with three clubs: ZVH (Zevenhuizen), Irene Beach (Bilthoven), and Beach Club Rotterdam (Rotterdam). While some matches showcased clear disparities in skill, one exciting encounter required a decisive Golden Set to crown the victor.
Final Standing
- ZVH Zevenhuizen (Leo Luini/Yannick Verberne, Quinten Groenewold/Tom Sonneville)
- Irene Beach (Wouter van Gilst/Jasper Diefenbach, Bart van Gilst/Fabian Mooibroek)
- Beach Club Rotterdam (Gijs Dikken/Elwin Oskam, Joran Maurice/Jake Anfiloff)
As members of Beach TeamNL, Luini/Verberne and Groenewold/Sonneville are set to represent their club on the international stage, competing against other European teams in the initial phase of the CEV Beach Volley European Cup 2025.
Plans are already underway for another national qualifying event next year in the Netherlands, with aspirations for broader club participation.
