Following the Europa League debut loss, Ruben Amorim analyzed the 2-0 defeat to Milan. This marked the first loss of his tenure with the Rossoneri, adding to two recent league draws.

Amorim After Milan-Benfica: 'When We Have the Ball, We Create More Problems for Ourselves'

Speaking to Sky Sport post-match, Ruben Amorim stated: "My idea is to play football and be dominant. We have possession, but sometimes we create more problems for ourselves when we have the ball than when the opponent does. We are working to develop routines for more possession closer to the goal, which we saw in the second half. However, there's significant work ahead. We aren't creating enough; we hold the ball extensively but lack creativity near the box. In the first half, after conceding, we completely lost our focus. We tried to do everything quickly but without quality. We must be ready and prepared when managing the ball, as we sometimes lose it in very dangerous moments and areas of the field."

Amorim on Poor First Halves vs. Lazio and Benfica: 'The Danger is When We Lose Possession'

Regarding the team's approach, Amorim commented: "I don't know if it's a mental issue. It's true this is the second game where we conceded in the first half. We need to prevent goals in the few defensive situations we face. We already struggle to create opportunities, which makes us nervous and anxious, complicating everything. Defense and attack are interconnected. The danger arises when we lose the ball. We tend to play too much inside instead of spreading to the wings, then moving inwards. We need to create more opportunities because we aren't generating enough. Particularly in the first half, we rarely attacked the space behind the defense. In the second, we created more, only to concede the second goal."

Amorim on Squad Selection: 'Formation? It's good to have a foundation, but you need results...'

Addressing squad choices: "Rabiot played his first full 90 minutes in Rome, and we weren't sure if he could manage another 90 minutes three days later. The same applies to Pulisic. Moreira had two days off due to personal matters, so he wasn't consistently available for training. There are also factors unknown to the public. It's not about individual players but the team's collective work. When we get close to the box, no one is entering it; we need to be more precise and organized." When asked by Paolo Di Canio about the team's formation, Amorim responded: "I change it constantly, in my opinion. Sometimes I need to start with a base; we've worked for two months. We lost today, but we'll look for ways to change things because having a working foundation is good, but ultimately, you need results."
