Lewis Moody at Peace with MND Diagnosis, Hopes Sons Follow Sporting Paths

Former England rugby World Cup winner Lewis Moody expressed his desire for his two sons to pursue professional sports careers, following his own decorated history in the game.

His eldest son, Dylan, 18, is already making strides in football, currently serving as a goalkeeper for Southampton and selected for England's Under-19 squad. Moody's younger son, Ethan, 16, shows promise as a rugby player, progressing through Bath's age-grade system.

Moody, who earned 71 caps for England and achieved significant success with Leicester Tigers and the British & Irish Lions, revealed last year that he had been diagnosed with motor neurone disease (MND), a progressive nervous system condition with no known cure.

He stated he would "absolutely love it" if Dylan reached senior level for England in football, acknowledging the hard work required but praising his son's dedication. Moody also shared a past conversation where he initially questioned Dylan's ambition to play for England, only to apologize and reaffirm his support for his son's dreams.

The former flanker is actively involved in supporting his sons' passions, emphasizing the importance of children pursuing what they enjoy. He expressed excitement for Ethan's development in rugby.

A new documentary details Moody's journey with MND, including candid discussions with Dylan and Ethan about his terminal diagnosis and the future.

Moody is also committed to raising awareness and funds for MND research, participating in a drug trial supported by the My Name'5 Doddie Foundation. He has found a sense of peace with his diagnosis, choosing to channel his energy into advocacy for those battling the disease.
