David Ferrer, captain of the Spanish Davis Cup team, has finalized his squad for the upcoming match against Chile on clay in Santiago. To secure a spot in the Bologna Finals, the former world number 3 is relying on promising young talents Rafa Jodar and Daniel Merida. These choices were necessitated by Carlos Alcaraz's withdrawal. Following his return to the circuit at the US Open after a four-and-a-half-month layoff due to a right wrist injury, Alcaraz chose to skip the trip to South America.

Consequently, Jodar and Merida, ranked first and second respectively, will face Cristian Garin and Alejandro Tabilo on the opening day. The doubles match will feature Martinez/Munar against Barrios Vera/Tabilo. Alcaraz, meanwhile, will be cheering from home while preparing for his next engagement: the Laver Cup.

However, a highly anticipated matchup will not occur due to Ben Shelton's last-minute withdrawal. The US Open finalist was slated to be a participant, but he has done the opposite of Alcaraz. Shelton will play in a Davis Cup playoff for the United States in Prague against the Czech Republic, foregoing the Laver Cup. His place in London will be taken by his compatriot Brandon Nakashima. This change means the Alcaraz-Shelton encounter, which captivated audiences in a nearly five-hour, five-set battle at the US Open ending at 3:30 AM, will have to wait.
