Vincent Kompany Expected to Coach Bayern Munich Against Arsenal
Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany is anticipated to lead his team from the sidelines during Wednesday's Champions League game against Arsenal. He rejoined team activities after a viral infection.
Reports from Kicker, Sport Bild, and Sky Germany indicate Kompany participated in Wednesday morning's training session and traveled with the squad to their hotel. The closed-door session occurred at Bayern's Säbener Straße training ground. Sport Bild noted the 40-year-old joined his players at their Unterschleißheim hotel, where final preparations for the match against Mikel Arteta's team were scheduled.
Sky Germany footage confirmed Kompany's arrival at the hotel, reinforcing his return to team preparations. While Bayern has not officially announced his touchline presence, recent events strongly suggest he will be available for the Arsenal match.
Kompany's Availability Was Unclear on Tuesday
This news marks a significant positive shift from Tuesday, when Kompany missed the final training session and pre-match press conference. He was still recovering from a viral infection that also affected him during Saturday's 6-1 Bundesliga win over RB Leipzig. Assistant coach Aaron Danks, who managed preparations in Kompany's absence, expressed doubt about his availability.
"Getting Vincent to rest is a difficult challenge," Danks stated at Tuesday's press conference. "He's at home resting. We take it day by day, so I'm unsure of his involvement tomorrow."
Kompany's illness reportedly caused leg and hip discomfort, limiting his movement during the Leipzig game. He spent much of that match seated, with Danks and other coaching staff directing the team from the sidelines. Wednesday's developments, however, show Kompany has recovered enough to resume team preparations.
Bayern will still be without Joshua Kimmich due to a family bereavement. Michael Olise is suspended, and Jamal Musiala is out injured. Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer is expected to return after recovering from a foot issue that kept him out of the last two matches.
The German club hosts Arsenal at the Allianz Arena at 21:00 CEST. Both teams aim to improve their standings in the Champions League league phase.
