Inter and Lazio to Contest Italian Super Cup in Milan
The Italian Super Cup will be held in Italy again, with Inter and Lazio set to face off at Milan's Giuseppe Meazza Stadium on December 22nd. This decision was confirmed by the Serie A League's board of directors.
Inter enters the single-match final as the reigning champion of both Serie A and the Coppa Italia. Lazio secured their spot in the Super Cup by reaching the final of the national cup competition.
Beyond returning to Italian soil, a significant change this year is the tournament format. It will no longer feature four teams with semi-finals and a final. Instead, it reverts to a direct single-match final.
The last time the Italian Super Cup final was played in Italy was in 2021, also at San Siro, where Inter defeated Juventus. Prior to that, the Stadio Olimpico in Rome hosted the final in 2017, with Lazio winning 3-2 against Juventus with a late goal from Murgia.
This shift back to a single-match final follows three editions that utilized a four-team format. The most recent final with a single match took place in Riyadh in 2021, where Inter beat AC Milan.
