Spazio Azzurri: Italy's Cycling Hub at the World Championships

MONTRÉAL – While the World Championships unfold on Montréal's streets, another Italian cycling narrative is being written at Spazio Azzurri. This Italian national cycling team hub, revived after 16 years, has become a central meeting point during the championship week. It brings together champions, sports figures, institutions, regions, Italian culture, and the community. Here, races are watched, discussed, and celebrated. The Azzurri return from competitions to find friends, fans, and representatives ready to welcome them. This has happened three times already, following two silver medals and one gold, turning Spazio Azzurri into a sort of "third half" for the World Championships.

The first welcome was for Filippo Ganna, silver medalist in the elite individual time trial. After the race, the Piedmontese champion was greeted at Spazio Azzurri by the President of the Italian Cycling Federation, Cordiano Dagnoni, team manager Elia Viviani, and other guests. It was a simple, spontaneous celebration for one of the World Championships' first Italian medals, allowing the protagonist to share the day's time-trial emotions.

A few hours later, another silver arrived, this time from Nicolas Milesi in the U23 time trial. The young Italian joined Spazio Azzurri post-race to an already familiar atmosphere: applause, stories, and the joy of sharing a medal with the public, confirming the strength of Italian cycling in the new generation.

Then came the gold medal day. The Team Relay secured Italy's world title, with Filippo Ganna, Mattia Cattaneo, Matteo Sobrero, Elisa Longo Borghini, Vittoria Guazzini, and Monica Trinca Colonel as key figures in a historic victory. This shared medal, won by men and women together, found its natural celebration place at Spazio Azzurri. The world champions arrived after the race and shared their victory story with guests before a final photo captured one of the most memorable moments of the early championship days.

Spazio Azzurri is more than just a medal venue. It serves as a window onto Italy. This Italian Cycling Federation project, supported by MASAF, ICE-Agenzia, the Abruzzo Region, and Trentino, aims to support the national team while also promoting Italy's national excellence abroad.
