VfB Stuttgart verlängert mit Sportchef Wohlgemuth
VfB Stuttgart extends contract with Sporting Director Fabian Wohlgemuth.
VfB Stuttgart is paving the way for its future: The club's supervisory board has extended the contract with Sporting Director Fabian Wohlgemuth ahead of schedule. As the Bundesliga club announced on Tuesday (August 18, 2026), Wohlgemuth's new contract is valid until 2029. The Champions League participant spoke in its announcement of a "successful collaboration" with the official, which will now continue.
Wohlgemuth joined VfB from SC Paderborn as Sporting Director in December 2022 and was promoted to Sporting Director in the summer of 2024. He has "given VfB a clear direction and philosophy in the sporting area," said President Dietmar Allgaier: "Together with our CEO Alexander Wehrle and the entire team in sports, we have managed to create a completely new sporting and economic image of our VfB Stuttgart in a very short time."
Wohlgemuth and VfB Stuttgart - a success story
Under Wohlgemuth, VfB developed from a relegation candidate to a Champions League participant, and in 2025, the Swabians won the DFB-Pokal. The 47-year-old was jointly responsible for the hiring of successful coach Sebastian Hoeneß and for important transfers such as that of national player Deniz Undav.
"Together, we have set many things on the right track for VfB in recent years," said Wohlgemuth: "Here, we are now taking another step of mutual trust, which I want to justify from my side by consistently setting and maintaining course towards achieving our ambitious goals together with everyone."
