Eintracht Frankfurt Extends Perfect Pre-Season Record with 2-0 Victory Over Hull City
Eintracht Frankfurt achieved their fourth win in four matches, defeating English top-flight side Hull City 2-0 in an extended 120-minute friendly. The match, played in front of 2,500 spectators at the Dreieich Sports Park, saw Frankfurt emerge as the deserved victors.
Coach Adi Hütter fielded his strongest available lineup for the initial 60 minutes, with a few exceptions. Nnamdi Collins remained sidelined due to injury, while new signings Noel Aseko and Otavio only participated in an individual training session earlier in the day. Aseko had been dealing with a minor injury, and Otavio arrived in Frankfurt with some training deficit from Portugal. However, the international transfer certificate for Brazilian center-back Otavio has now been processed, and he is expected to make his debut in the friendly against FSV Frankfurt on Wednesday.
Onyedika Debuts, Burkardt Scores
Raphael Onyedika made his debut for Eintracht in a defensive midfield role. While he generally performed adequately, showing some strong tackles, he also made a glaring passing error. Frankfurt started the game well, outplaying the newly promoted Premier League team, but failed to convert several early chances. Jonathan Burkardt (17th minute), Ritsu Doan (24th minute), and Younes Ebnoutalib (47th minute) were all unable to find the back of the net. Hull City could have been awarded a penalty when Julian Etse, a young defender for Frankfurt, fouled an opponent, but the incident went uncalled (29th minute). Etse, along with left-back Keita Kosugi, struggled defensively on the left flank. Just as Hull began to find their rhythm, Eintracht scored. Striker Burkardt latched onto a long ball from goalkeeper Kaua Santos and scored to give Frankfurt the lead (56th minute).
Theate and Wahi Feature
For the second half, Coach Hütter introduced a completely new team, including Arthur Theate. The center-back, who recently returned from his World Cup break, is reportedly being considered for a transfer within the next three weeks. He delivered a convincing performance on Saturday. Another notable player was Ansgar Knauff, who, usually a forward, played at right-back in this match.
The second goal came from the other side. Fares Chaibi and Jean-Matteo Bahoya were involved in the build-up on the left, and youngster Love Arrhov capped off the move with a well-placed shot into the far corner (71st minute). The game became more fragmented after the goal, but Eintracht remained the superior side. In the final fifteen minutes, forward Elye Wahi, who is also reportedly being sought after by other clubs, was brought on.
